WELCOME

The Florida Society of Medical Assistants welcomes our many student members and highly encourages current medical assisting students and future students to become involved in your professional organization.  We have included this website page for you to meet and learn about student members, student membership and the accredited (CAAHEP) programs in Florida.

Congratulations to Ashley Laufenberg!

Ashley Laufenberg, Medical Assisting student from Brevard Community College, in Melbourne, Florida is the recent recipient of the FSMA  “Student Representative to AAMA Award”.

As a first year medical assisting student, Ashley Laufenberg became a student member of her professional organization to become more involved with her profession and program of study. Through her interest, initiative, dedication, and desire to learn, Ashley took on many new leadership roles for her potential career. She became involved in the Medical Assisting Club at her college, joined the Brevard County Chapter of Medical Assistants, and also attended several state medical assisting conferences in Orlando, Florida.

Through her involvement, Ashley applied for and took part in The FSMA Student Representative to AAMA Award. This is a state based award for current medical assisting students in Florida and award recipients receive the same financial support as FSMA Delegates & Alternates toward their attendance at the 2008 National Medical Assisting Conference being held in Chicago, IL, a gift basket, and a winning certificate. This year FSMA is proud to support Ashley as student ambassador for the AAMA National Conference.

This achievement takes much commitment, dedication, and involvement. Ashley had to compete against other medical assisting students in the entire state of Florida, had to submit a letter of recommendation from a mentor, her program director, and from a FSMA State leader. In addition, she had to present a written and verbal report on “Why I Should Be The Chosen One” at the CMA Luncheon at the FSMA 2008 State Conference which was held in May.

Congratulations on your dedication, commitment, and leadership. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!
